MORE ABOUT US
Located in Narrm, Melbourne - Blakground is a majority Aboriginal owned and led production company specialising in video, stills and casting. Founded by Sianna Catullo (Narungga) and Greg McCann.
Sianna and Greg have worked together for the past 5 years, creating campaigns and educational content with Clothing The Gaps, an Aboriginal fashion label using fashion to influence and create social change.
Blakground came to life because First Nations voices have historically been underrepresented or misrepresented in mainstream media. Though we are seeing a change in the currently landscape and there are more Mob being seen on screen, Sianna and Greg believe there is still so much work to do behind the scenes for those spaces to be safe.
Blakground exists to facilitate safe spaces for First Nations people by creating culturally minded content that celebrates culture, storytelling, and creativity. Blakground prioritises the value of diversity seen on-screen is mirrored behind the scenes.
We are passionate about the visibility of First Nations people being represented in all parts of the story and exists to break barriers, and reshape the narrative in the production and fashion industry, setting new standards for inclusivity and representation.
We aspire for First Nations people to not only have a seat at the table but are leading the way in shaping the future of storytelling, creativity, and cultural expression.
Blakground specialises in infusing First Nations storytelling elements into every project, ensuring that clients receive content that resonates deeply with diverse audiences. By prioritising collaboration with First Nation’s talent and Communities, Blakground delivers compelling narratives that celebrate culture, creativity, and diversity.
